Woofles: Alone

This is the first chapter for a book I wrote. Enjoy!!

Characters: Natasha, a twelve-year old Negro girl; Lucy, Natasha's little six-year old sister; Momma, Natasha's mother; Poppa, Natasha's father

Natasha nodded her head of thick, black, curly hair. "Yes ma'am. I washed the dishes." "Okay. Maybe you could go play with Lucy or go outside. It's beautiful here," said Momma. "Okay, Momma." I wish I had just ONE friend, Natasha thought. Poppa had gotten a job here, in Virginia. Natasha missed North Carolina. She missed Chealsea, her best friend; she missed Betsy, her cat; she especially missed Nanna, her grandmother. I'll have to find a friend here to play with and talk to. With that, she started to think about Chealsea, then Betsy, then Nanna. Nanna is so wise. She'd help me with anything, thought Natasha. We used to live right next to her, and now she's gone. Actually, we're gone. A tear dropped from her eye. "I need to think about something else. I'm making myself cry," she said aloud. She sniffed, then decided to go on a walk. "Bye, Momma. I'm going for a walk." "Bye. Have fun!" Natasha hardly noticed the flowers and trees and birds today, like she used to in North Carolina. I miss Betsy. Maybe I should get a puppy. Puppies are so cute. Natasha's thoughts whirled in her head. They whirled even more when she saw a girl of about 12 years old laying on the road.

Don't miss the next chapter of Woofles! Coming soon!
